Compress a video for Discord
Free Discord accounts can upload files up to 20 MB as of August 2026. Pick the Discord target, choose your clip, and get a file under that limit without it leaving your device.
The Discord limit: 20 MB as of August 2026
Discord's published limit for accounts without Nitro is 20 MB per file as of August 2026. Discord has changed this number before and says it is still experimenting, so check Discord's own support page if an upload is refused.
Here, 1 MB means 1,000,000 bytes, the same way Discord counts. The Discord target aims below 20 MB with some room to spare, and the tool tells you whether the result actually came in under it. If a clip is too long to fit at a watchable quality, it says so instead of handing you a blurry file.
How it works
The compression runs in your browser using the video encoders your device already has. Your clip is read from disk, re-encoded, and offered back as a download. Nothing is uploaded on this option.
The result is an MP4 where your browser can make one, and a WebM otherwise.
Discord video questions
What is the Discord file size limit?
20 MB per file for accounts without Nitro, as of August 2026. Discord has changed this limit several times, so confirm on Discord's support page.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
Not on the free option. The compression runs inside your browser on your own device, so the video is never sent to a server. The page shows a note after each job saying it ran on your device.
What if my browser cannot compress it, or the file is too big?
The in-browser option accepts files up to 2 GB and needs a current version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari. If your browser cannot do it, or the video is larger than that, the page says so instead of failing quietly, and the paid server option handles bigger files and exact target sizes.
